FAQs
Why is this contest being held?
Kicklights are a new form of media and we want as many people to know about and experience it as possible. We believe that by offering a broad and deep selection of compelling kicklights, we can build a loyal and growing viewing audience. Some of those viewers will be inspired to make their own kicklights, and that will in turn build larger audiences. Light it up!
Do I need to be a professional filmmaker?
Absolutely not. We believe that anyone can make a kicklight, and we want to encourage as many people as possible to give it a try...or two...or three.
Can I make a kicklight with other people?
Sure - good idea. However, only the individual creator of the kicklight will be eligible to receive the prize money. (What you may chose to do with that money is up to you.)
Can I submit more than one kicklight?
Yes. The limit is set at 100, and we would love to see as many of your kicklights as you are inspired to make.
What should my kicklight be about?
Anything that you can imagine. Look at the kicklights already offered on the site to get a sense of the range of possibilities. Perhaps you’ll want to take a favorite music video and add some cool graphics. Maybe you’ll take a “how to” video that you’ve put together and add links to additional information. Or, you might take a speech or interview and add your own “fact check” information and links. The possibilities are limitless.
Are there any content restrictions?
Your kicklight must be suitable for a general audience. It should not contain profanity of sexually explicit material. You must also ensure that you’re not violating the ownership rights of anyone else. For the complete guidelines regarding prohibited material, see the contest rules.
Can I use music, video clips, photos, or other files from other sources?
Yes. See the contest rules for a full explanation of the guidelines for using copyrighted material. The key idea is that you should only user material that you have a right to use.
Does my video need to be in English?
No. However, the KickLight judges are (sadly) English-speaking only. (Maybe you can make a kicklight to teach us another language!)
